THE NORTH END HOUSING DEVELOPMENT IN WINNIPEG, MANITOBA IS ONE OF CANADA’S MOST VULNERABLE URBAN COMMUNITIES.

The North End community residents face many challenges from addiction to poverty, to higher rates of violence. David Livingstone Community School is located in this community. The school’s population is roughly 90% Indigenous and 10% Newcomers to Canada.

While there, the Darkspark team collaborated with Elder Madeline Mousseau – whose grace, humour and seemingly endless capacity for love moved us beyond words, a group of extremely talented and resilient Grade 7&8 students, generous & passionate teacher Talitha Kaethler, principal Timothy Cox and staff at David Livingstone Community School.

Thanks to Heritage Canada, The Winnipeg School Division, The Winnipeg Foundation and the National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts – Music Alive Program for their support in bringing The Four Directions Project to Winnipeg.
